Girls Give Up Birthday Gifts To Help Homeless Pets
Basil, you’ve written about kids giving up birthday gifts for a good cause. This week I found THREE different stories about girls asking for pet supplies for their local animals shelters instead of birthday gifts for themselves. Giving on your birthday instead of getting seems to be a trend – and all of these kids are glad they made the decision to help the animals that they love.
Seven-year-old Ashley Marmer of Virginia has given up birthday presents two years in a row to support her local animal shelter! Nine-year-old Suzan Johnson of Kentucky requested that her friends and family donate things that animal shelters really need: pet food, cleaning supplies, and used blankets. Another seven-year-old girl in California had the same idea.
Is there a cause you would like to support, but you don’t have any money to help? Do you *really* need all of those birthday gifts? You can make a difference for homeless animals, or any other cause that is important to you. All you have to do is ask! People are usually happy to help others (especially animals!) who are less fortunate. And you get to feel really good about helping out. Here are three stories for inspiration:
